Welcome

The aim of the secondary pages is to support geography and geographers in the south west. We welcome submissions from teachers who wish to share ideas and new approaches to teaching geography in the classroom . . . how to teach the ‘tricky bits’ . . . how to engage and motivate students . . . how to address the needs of low ability students . . . how to push high achievers to reach their potential . . . and so on. Would you like to recommend or review new resources, suggest support videos, TV programmes or podcasts? Please get involved and support geography southwest.

We would like to invite submissions of SW Case Studies; short academic studies focusing on case studies or examples in the south west that would be suitable for use with GCSE or A level students. These might include recent urban redevelopment, new coastal defences or new housing developments. We see this as a great opportunity for teachers to get their name ‘out there’ and enhance the c.v. . . . so please get involved.

We are delighted to host an interactive GIS page focusing on the south west (see Explore SW). Developed by Harry West (UWE), several data sets are available for you to use in teaching GIS to your students. We hope that you will find this and the rest of the secondary pages useful and inspiring.
