Welcome

The aim of the primary pages is to support all trainees, NQTs, classroom teachers and Subject Leaders who are based in the south west of England.  The new Education Inspection Framework (EIF) with its 3Is (intent, implementation and impact) was launched by Ofsted in September 2019 and has provoked many schools to review their curriculum offering in some depth.  Primary schools have often found this to be somewhat challenging, especially in very small schools where individuals have various roles and responsibilities or where geographical expertise is limited.

‘What is our ‘vision’ for geography?’, ‘How can we plan our whole school curriculum to ensure it is ‘knowledge-rich’ and has sufficient opportunities for skills development embedded within it to deepen conceptual understanding?’,  Is geography effectively sequenced and progression clearly evident?’, ‘How can we make geography relevant, engaging, informative and exciting?’, ‘How can we be certain that it is accessible to all?’, Are we really ‘stretching and challenging’ our children enough?’, ‘How do we know what ‘impact’ teaching is having on our learners?’; these are all questions frequently asked by teaching professionals within our region’s establishments, and beyond.

Hopefully, by promoting new resources, useful websites, ‘freebies’, competitions, fieldwork opportunities, upcoming CPD events and sharing best practice, teachers can adopt, adapt and develop new teaching activities and provide stimulating learning experiences for all the youngsters that they come into contact with.  Ultimately, if this has been achieved, then a small, but worthy impact will have been had on a generation of educators and learners.

Do get involved and support geography southwest.  Contributions of content are most welcome.

We hope that you will find the primary pages to be useful and inspiring.
