State of the Exe Estuary new resource

A wealth of up to date information and useful data on the ‘State of the Exe Estuary’ is now publicly available through a new online ‘toolkit’ published by the Exe Estuary Management Partnership in Spring 2020.

Teachers seeking facts and figures to support lessons on coasts and estuaries or seeking ideas for investigations will find much of interest in this comprehensive set of resources.

The State of the Exe Estuary toolkit provides information on the current status of the Exe Estuary and includes sections on geology, population growth, habitats, land uses, environmental quality, and flooding and coastal risk management. There are high quality images and graphics. A wide range of helpful links takes you to the websites of other organisations, including the environment agency and government departments.

The toolkit includes data from 2006 and 2014 from original printed documents, enabling studies users to study changes over time such as settlement growth and estuary land uses. These earlier publications include additional graphs and charts which could be used in investigations.

Teachers will find a wealth of useful data in this resource. Older students including those studying at A level and beyond could find information to support their research. The Exe Estuary would provide an appropriate case study of coastal management issues for examination courses.

The State of the Exe Estuary innovative on-line toolkit was created through generous funding from the locality budgets of Local Councillors Jeffrey Trail BEM, Su Aves, Marina Asvachin, Christine Channon, John Clatworthy, Percy Prowse, Richard Scott, Margaret Squires, and Carol Whitton.
