The Lower Otter Restoration Project, East Devon

The Lower Otter Restoration Project

The estuary of the river Otter in east Devon has been facing serious challenges connected to climate change, with sea levels predicted to rise by up to one metre by 2100, and an increased risk from sea flooding. The local authorities have responded by implementing a sustainable coastal management solution of managed realignment, allowing the river Otter and a network of tidal creeks to reconnect with the historic flood plain enabling the tide to come in and out as it once did to flood the area. The walk allows a close inspection of the management features introduced to this area.
