The Coastal Geography of Westward Ho!, North Devon

The Coastal Geography of Westward Ho!

This walk visits a number of interesting coastal landscape features, including wave cut platforms, caves, a wide sandy beach, a fossil cliff line, a raised beach, glacial ‘head’ deposits, and the unique pebble ridge spit. It also examines a number of coastal management techniques being used to protect the area from storm waves and rising sea levels. The village of Westward Ho! is part of the UNESCO North Devon Biosphere Reserve, the first of its kind in the UK. There is also an opportunity to study the growth and development of this Victorian seaside resort.
