Hartland Quay, North Devon

Hartland Quay, North Devon

Hartland Quay is located in a remote corner of the north Devon coast that offers some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the United Kingdom. At nearby Warren Beach, the two major rock types of this location, sandstone and mudstone, have been folded and contorted to produce spectacular cliff features - evidence of geological events that took place around 300 million years ago in the Variscan Orogeny. The beach also provides excellent examples of faulting, marine erosion, a wide wave cut platform, and a spectacular arch.
