A-La-Ronde House, Exmouth

A-La-Ronde - Unique sixteen-sided house

A-La-Ronde is a National Trust property in Summer Lane Exmouth, EX8 5BD. It is a unique sixteen-sided house built for Mary and Jane Parminter at the end of the Eighteenth century. Mary and Jane set off on a Grand Tour of Europe in 1784 and many mementoes from their travels are on display in A La Ronde.

A La Ronde is a fascinating visit for those interested in the Grand Tour and memorabilia collected from that time. It also provides an insight into the life of the Parminter sisters, travelling through Europe at a time when the Grand Tour was usually undertaken by wealthy gentlemen. There are spectacular views from upper floor of the house towards Exmouth and Dawlish. The landscaped grounds are open to visitors. There are short walks with coastal views and picnic areas.  Please check opening times, as this NT property in not open throughout the year.

Location: Two miles north of Exmouth, signposted off the A 376. Short walk up narrow lane from Stagecoach 57 Exmouth to Exeter bus. Car parking on site. House and gardens to explore. Café, gift shop and second-hand bookstore. Admission charge. Open February to November.
