JustTeach Global physical environments

Introduction

Global Physical Environments is a resource file written by Simon Ross and published by Cross Academe (http://www.crossacademe.co.uk/subject/geography). It comprises a series of resource-based student activities focusing on key topics studied at GCSE.

The objective is to provide much needed practical teacher support materials, with an emphasis on teaching geographical skills. Each unit provides students with interesting and engaging activities in the form of a worksheet. Exam-style questions make use of a wide variety of resources including maps, photos and graphs.

Each unit has a similar structure with the following components:

  • Introductory text reinforcing geographical specification content
  • Use of a range of data (photos, tables, maps, sketches, etc)
  • Some ‘doing’ activities, including decision-making exercises
  • An incremental increase in level of difficulty and use of command words, including at least one higher level command word
  • One online activity – an opportunity to use a broader range of resources such as video

The activity sheets can be used in the classroom or for homework.

Each file is published in pdf format and is supported by a Powerpoint file, which contains all resources (to enable them to be shown to the whole class) and suggested answers to activities.
