Climate change, flooding and forests

Introduction

Many parts of the UK are periodically affected by flooding and the frequency of floods is expected to increase due to climate change. Tree planting and forest management can alter flood flows, although the extent of this depends on many factors.

Forest Research has published a summary factsheet outlining the impacts forests can have on reducing the flood hazard and addressing issues associated with climate change (Factsheet: Climate change, flooding and forests - Forest Research )

Forest Research has also published a comprehensive report on climate change, flooding and forests (Designing and managing forests and woodlands to reduce flood risk - Forest Research)
