Secret street detectives

Introduction

‘Pupils should develop knowledge about the world, the United Kingdom and their locality’ (National Curriculum Key Stage (KS) 1 order).

 

This unit of work supports young geographers in gaining knowledge and understanding of the immediate locality in which their school is situated.

 

This implementation package includes

 

1 An in depth medium term plan – (Including an introduction to the unit; key learning outcomes / assessment opportunities; links to the KS1 National Curriculum statutory order; a suggested sequenced learning pathway; cross curricular considerations and parent / guardian support activities).

 

2 ‘Secret Street Detective’ enquiry outline to support teaching colleagues, classroom support staff and parent helpers in undertaking this framed enquiry.

 

3 Power Point – Types of Houses - Images of different types of houses commonly found in most localities.

 

Note - If you are using this unit of work the title (partial postcode) will of course need changing to that of your school.
