New Marsh Barton station opens in Exeter

A new train station opened in Exeter on Tuesday 4 July 2023. Marsh Barton station is located close to the industries, warehouses, and retailing outlets in the Marsh Barton industrial estate, and should enable more workers to use public transport to get to work. Several new housing developments are under construction in Alphington and Matford and new walking and cycling routes will link them to the station.

The station has an hourly service from linking Exmouth, Exeter, Newton Abbot and Torbay. It is part of the developing Devon Metro system of local stations linked to major centres of employment. Further new stations are planned in the region, including Cranbrook East, and Cullompton, to serve new towns in these areas, and Wellington in Somerset.

Marsh Barton station is adjacent to the Exeter's Riverside Valley Park, a popular recreation area and is linked to a network of footpaths and traffic free cycle routes. It is already proving popular with tourists and local visitors seeking to visit the Exeter Ship Canal and the meadows along the River Exe.
