Exploring the River Exe catchment

Introduction

In this GIS activity, students will use the Explore SW GIS interface to explore the characteristics of the River Exe catchment (from source to mouth). They will find out about the catchments rainfall, geology and landuse, and areas at risk of flooding. A Word Document and PDF worksheet can be found below.

This ties in with key themes in the geography curriculum such as the water cycle, catchment hydrology, hydrological and fluvial processes, and GIS/spatial data interpretation.

This activity can easily be adapted to any of the catchments/hydrological units in the Explore SW interface.
